Who I am and How I work

Kate 108 is the practice of Katherine Wood, artist, educator, and astrologer.

My relationship with astrology began long before I formally studied it. As an artist, I have always been drawn to patterns, symbols, and cycles, the quiet ways meaning reveals itself over time. I studied painting academically and built a career in the arts and education, while astrology lived alongside that work as a private, intuitive curiosity.

In 2012, that curiosity deepened into serious study. I moved beyond sun sign horoscopes into symbolic language, planetary cycles, and chart structure, coming to understand astrology as something embodied and lived rather than simply predicted.

A turning point came in 2018, when I became a mother. During that tender, expansive time, I discovered Chris Brennan's The Astrology Podcast and encountered traditional astrology for the first time. Its language was precise, grounded, and spacious enough to hold complexity, and I recognized immediately that I had found the framework I had been seeking.

I went on to study traditional methods including whole sign houses and traditional rulerships, while continuing to work with the outer planets and Chiron. My teachers have included Adam Elenbaas, Adam Sommer, Rick Levine, and Gemini Brett. I have studied extensively through Astrology Hub and attended the NORWAC astrology conference for several years.

More recently, my work has expanded into horary astrology, the art of reading a question, which I experience as a form of planetary discernment rooted in intention and timing. I am also completing a life coaching certification through the Rise and Thrive School, further integrating astrology with grounded, client-centered support.

At the heart of Kate 108 is an artful approach to astrology, one that values symbolism, clarity, and the intelligence of time. My background as a painter shapes how I see charts, how I listen, and how I hold space. I do not believe astrology exists to override free will or predict fixed outcomes. I believe it exists to orient us, to help us stand more consciously within our own lives.

I am, simply and fully, the painting astrologer.

Why 108

108 is a sacred number found across cultures, calendars, and cosmologies. The distance from the Earth to the Sun is approximately 108 times the Sun's diameter. The distance from the Earth to the Moon is approximately 108 times the Moon's diameter. It appears in Vedic tradition, in Buddhist practice, in the geometry of sacred architecture.

I

t is not a coincidence. It is a pattern.

That is what this practice is built on — the belief that the proportions around us are not random, that cycles repeat with intention, and that learning to read them changes how you move through your life.
